except i've seen a ton of landscape and imagery that reflects specifically egyptian things. the large statues from various screen shots, the topography that seems very nile delta like, images of desert type areas, scythe wielding, and i'm sure theres more.

Nightfall isn't Egypt exclusively but if you look at the game art in the screenshots you'll see there is Egyptian influence in much of the architecture, and armor art.

Nightfall isnt based entirely on Egyptian themes, that's true. But as Bigwig pointed out, there ARE Egyptian architecture and themes in it.

I do see what you're trying to point out though. I've seen a lot of people think that this chapter will be only desert landscapes. You'd be surprised that a lot of people dont know that Africa isnt all desert.

It's like how people thought Factions is all anime based simply because it's Asian themed. People are really narrowminded and ignorant.

In my view, it is North Africa themed, which includes Egypt, Morrocco, Tunisia, etc. If Morrocco and Tunisia are in fact the same country, please excuse. It's late, and I don't want to go look it up.

Good point, Vulcan! All those ignorant people talk about minor details like skill templates, customizable henchmen, auction houses, ... all day, but they ignore the facts that really matter!!

/sarcasm

ANet, please release some more information. Give us something to talk about. Throw us a bone. Threads like this show how urgently we need it.

and now you made the mistake by saying it is african based, because it's north african based.
and there are no rainwoods in north africa, but in middle africa, correct me if i'm wrong.
so the wood will be located near water, but there won't be big jungles like in tyria.

Not trying to flame or go off topic, but I can see how people don't differentiate the two (Egypt-Africa). I've even met people that think Africa and Europe are countries. AND, astonishingly, that people in Africa speak "African" and Europeans speak "European"! It's probably best explained by a poor education, I won't say it's a lack of interest.

I went to Morrocco for Marine Corps annual training this summer. It is mostly desert. But, all those regions have a lot of romanticism in their history. Let the Guild Wars courtships begin. hehe. I met my soulmate in the Crystal Desert, and guess what, she's not a fatty.

i think the main thing to keep in mind here is that it IS a fantasy game... and while most fantasy games are based off of european stuff, it would be just silly to say that Forgotten Realms is supposed to be like England or whatever.

Yes, egypt is a big deal in real-world history. It is very unique, and you can see it instantly, knowing what it is.

What most americans DONT know about is some of the other countries' histories.

Nightfall is based off of all mesopotamian (sorry dont feel like spell checker, im guilty of ignorance too so shoot me) cultures, ranging from 'arabian' to 'egyptian' and mostly 'everything in between'.

If ANYTHING, you have to realize the connection to RITUALISTS and old-school African religions.

Wed all be better off not trying to classify this style as a cop on any world culture... yes it is based off african stuff/arabian stuff, but it is not REPRESENTING them.

Personally, Im more excited about this particular game-world because aside from 'prince of persia' we really only ever get Euro- and Asian- based games as a general majority in the video game market.

This will be something new and fresh, and I applaud Anet's decision to tip their hat to this vital part of world history.

And dont forget the Paragons are based off the greco-roman cultures... which yes, had much to do with egypt and north africa.

no. you are simply 100% wrong.

id give it 33% only if you included other north african countries as 'egyptian'

33% african
33% mesopotamian
33% greco-roman

that would be like saying Cantha is 100% japanese when its obviously based somewhat on tibet and china too

(and this is me speaking in general terms)

Its like saying "dungeons and dragons" is based on England... which is kind of stupid way to view the world.

Yeah, I hated history class in high school, too. But at least I can have conversations about it without looking like a 100% fool.
